About

We are CENDASNER!

CENDASNER is an integral part of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University founded on the philosophy that knowledge should be propagated and disseminated to all individuals whether exceptional, gifted or with disabilities.

CENDASNER strongly believes in the motto: There is ability in disability!

We are an all inclusive Centre committed to Training, Teaching, Research and Support Services for students and staff of this great university especially those with one form or disability or the other. CENDASNER was established in line with the Target 200 Vision of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone in September 2019 with its pioneer Director Professor Williams Emeka Obiozor – a University of Pittsburgh, USA, trained special education expert. CENDASNER also seeks to increase awareness of the gains derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of teaching-learning process, environment, political, social, economic and cultural life of every institution – schools, churches, political parties, market, social life etc.

This Centre is arguably the first of its kind in Africa and has began the process of introducing special needs Certificate programmes for teachers in public schools and tertiary education, including graduates who aspire for special skills in teaching and caring for persons with disabilities. In the discharge of its mission, the Centre shall also live up to the ideals of the National Disabilities Commission for Persons with Disability, Abuja, and other related agencies locally and overseas in the advocacy for students with disabilities to acquire knowledge, skills and trainings that would empower them to live a purposive life devoid of discrimination or injustice. CENDASNER hopes to deliver the needed support to our students’ education pragmatically, and using it to forge unity among the various communities and employers of labour in Nigeria and the International community. The Future of students with disabilities begins here.
